Empower Hispanic America with Technology Grant
Providing access to technology for Hispanics in America
Santa Cruz Center recently received an Empower Hispanic America with Technology (EHAT) grant from League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) to establish a Tech Center for traditional onsite and distance learning continuing education classes. New computers and monitors plus overhead projectors were added to the Santa Cruz Center computer lab as a result of the grant.
The Empower Hispanic America with Technology (EHAT) initiative advances education, careers and quality of life through access to technology in the form of equipment, software, training, and educational courses.
The Tech Center provides students, parents and low-income Latinos access to free high-speed internet, state-of-the-art computer equipment and a technology curriculum. The lab also offers office applications and computer training courses, access to GED preparation, financial aid and job searches among other services.
It’s the second such EHAT location in Arizona and one of more than 60 facilities throughout the United States. Each is equipped with at least 10 networked computers, broadband access, a wireless access point, laser printer, LCD projector for instruction and an online technology curriculum, as well as onsite set-up and support.

The EHAT Tech Center was opened in conjunction with a year-long TECHNOLOchicas LiFT program, which works to expose middle school girls to skills needed for success in the technology sector. Wade Carpenter, Desert Shadows, Calabasas School, and Coatimundi middle schools hosted the program in Santa Cruz County this year with assistance from the County School Superintendent’s Office.
The new technology lab at the Santa Cruz Center is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30p.m., Monday- Friday.
In addition, community members can make special requests to have the lab opened during off hours, including Saturdays. For more information, call the Santa Cruz Center at (520) 394-7181.
